Decker was on the (snot) bubble for 'Battleship'

Just being a gorgeous, onetime Sports Illustrated model doesn't mean directors are automatically blown away when you decide to become an actress. Nope, as Brooklyn Decker, co-star of the upcoming "Battleship" movie discovered, it takes something special, from your insides.

Like snot bubbles.

"They kept bringing me in [for auditions] and telling me I wasn't tough enough," reported Decker (who is also co-starring in "What to Expect When You're Expecting") during a TODAY appearance Wednesday morning. "And I'm just thinking, this is torture."

So how could she prove herself? The director gave her a specific instruction. "My director said, 'You have to make snot bubbles if you want this part.'"

"I had to make snot bubbles come from my nose," she said, and while she didn't replicate the process, her interviewers -- Ann Curry, Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie -- were suitably grossed out.

"Wow, there goes the glamorous image of the Sports Illustrated model," said Guthrie.

"If that qualifies you for a role, by the way, all of my kids are going to be movie stars," said Lauer.

"Battleship" opens in theaters on May 18.
