Muscle Building Tips For A Bigger And Better Body!

Start to build the muscles you want by using your mind. You want to know exactly how you can achieve the desired results. In order to build up the kind of body you want yourself to have and to do it with the greatest possible efficiency, take heed of the advice laid out below.

By creating a routine that includes compound workouts, you will achieve the fastest muscle growth. These are exercises that use several different muscle groups to perform a single lift. Am example is a bench press that helps work out shoulders, triceps, and the chest in a single exercise.

When lifting weights for muscle growth, don?t make the mistake of eliminating good fats. There are many good fats and they are important to muscle growth. Eating too little fat will reduce the speed with which you gain muscle. Research has proven that a positive relationship exists between your testosterone and fat levels, which is an additional benefit of eating healthy fats.

Keep a training journal. Evaluating your progress is essential when muscle building. A great way to accomplish that is to have a fitness log. When you work out, write down which exercises you performed and how many reps of each you completed. This will help you see how well you do over time and will increase the likelihood that you continue with your program.

Take photographs of your naked body every couple of days. It can be hard to tell by just seeing your body in the mirror daily. However, you can see the increase in muscle mass by examining and comparing photographs that span several weeks.

Have something to eat before you workout, and eat again afterward. Try a high protein snack, such as a protein bar or shake, for a quick pick-me-up. Later on, you can get more serious by measuring out protein and planning a more specific meal plan.

Make a smart workout schedule. This can help you build muscle while avoiding injury. If you are working on your muscles for the first time, only do strenuous workouts two times a week. Those that have more experience and have already been conditioning their muscles can safely work out this way three times in a week.

Eat plenty of healthy fats as part of your bodybuilding diet. Additionally, fats help increase your testosterone, as well as, keeping joints flexible. This can mean muscle gain that is both healthy and effective throughout your body. Saturated fats are not good for your heart, however, so be sure to steer clear of them.

Don?t work on enhancing the size of your muscles if you are taking part in a marathon or participating in extreme cardio workouts. Although cardio can help improve your general physical health and fitness, it can negate the effects of strength training exercises. Focus on a healthy balance between cardio exercise and weight training.

A great way to motivate yourself is by making short-term goals and once you reach these goals, reward yourself. Because growing muscle requires you remain committed in the long run, it is extremely important that you constantly remain motivated. Try setting up rewards that can assist you in your quest of gaining muscle. For instance, reward yourself with a massage, it can improve blood flow and help your recovery.

If you are attempting to build muscle, you need to have a sufficient amount of carbs. Carbohydrates provide the energy required to complete your weight-training exercises; if you don?t consume enough of them, your body will turn to protein for its energy needs, slowing down your progress. Eat enough carbohydrates so that your body can function, and you will be able to make it through your workouts.

Remember that gaining muscle isn?t just about dedication or going to the gym on a regular basis. Building muscle long-term is a concentrated effort. Create an effective routine that will strengthen your muscles more quickly by using the advice above

Charles (Chuck) Frantz - Anthropology News

Charles (Chuck) Frantz, 86, was born in Rocky Ford, CO on April 22, 1925, and died in Philadelphia on July 19, 2011. Chuck was classified as a conscientious objector during World War II and did alternative service in the US. Chuck graduated with a BA in sociology from Earlham College (1950), and an MA in sociology and anthropology from Haverford College (1951). He obtained a PhD in anthropology from the University of Chicago (1958 under the direction of Robert Redfield).

He was executive secretary of the AAA in the turbulent 1960s, where he worked for a strong code of ethics, befitting his Quaker upbringing. In 1968, he joined SUNY?Buffalo?s anthropology department where he was to be chair. Differences with members of the department over secret defense department research, a hot issue during the Vietnam War, led him to refuse to become chair. His class on ethics in anthropology was somewhat controversial?a surprise at the time. In addition to working at SUNY?Buffalo, Chuck also taught at Portland State University, University of Toronto and Howard University. On a sabbatical, he conducted significant work on Fulani migration at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria.

Charles was a prolific writer and conducted research in Zimbabwe, Cameroun, Nigeria, Canada and the US. His major areas were the history of anthropology, theory, and pastoral societies but also had broad interests in physical anthropology, linguistics, and archeology. His major works were the Student Anthropologist?s Handbook,?Pastoral Societies, Stratification and National Integration in Africa and Racial Themes in Southern Rhodesia (co-authored with Cyril Rogers), and The Doukhobor Political System:?Social Structure and Social Organization in a Sectarian Society.

He published some articles on his doctoral research on the Doukhobor in Canada, a nudist group of immigrants from Russia, whom the Canadian government deemed terrorists while trying to stamp out their religious practices. The story of how Chuck protected his informants and smuggled his research into the US is an adventure story in itself. He never published the full text of his dissertation but was considering doing so at his death. For some time, Chuck also worked on a history of the AAA and had more than 60 tapes of his interviews with significant people in anthropology.

On a more personal note, Chuck was a diligent worker who passed his work ethic on to his students. He also protected his doctoral students, insisting that he convey the messages of other committee members to them. He married Charlotte Rae Stutzman on June 8, 1950, in Richmond, IN. He is survived by three children, Marina Belknap, Trevor, and Corrine; two grandchildren, Dylan and Caleb; a brother, Galen of Fort Collins, CO; and a sister, Dorothy Costopoulus of Fort Laramie, WY.

Without his aid, I never would have finished my own dissertation. As Dizzy Gillespie, the bop trumpet player, said of Louis Armstrong, the great progenitor of jazz trumpet, ?No him, no me.? The profession lost an important figure in Chuck?s death, and I lost a piece of my heart. He was a true and dear friend. (Frank A Salamone, with information from Polly Willman)

Salk findings of a key genetic mechanism in plant hormone signaling may help save crops from stress and help address human hunger

LA JOLLA, CA----Scientists at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies have discovered a key genetic switch by which plants control their response to ethylene gas, a natural plant hormone best known for its ability to ripen fruit, but which, under stress conditions, can cause wilted leaves, premature aging and spoilage from over-ripening. The findings, published August 30 in Science magazine, may hold the key to manipulating plants' ethylene on/off switch, allowing them to balance between drought resistance and growth and, therefore, decrease crop losses from drought conditions.

"In different stress conditions----flooding, drought, chilling, wounding or pathogen attack----ethylene tells plants to make adjustments to these adverse changes," says senior study author Joseph Ecker, a professor in Salk's Plant Biology Laboratory and Howard Hughes Medical Institute-Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation investigator. "Our study discovered a key step in how plants 'smell' ethylene gas, which may lead to better ways to control these processes in crop plants."

Plants sense----or smell----ethylene, which triggers a cascade of events in their cells. Ethylene sensors in the cells send a signal to the nucleus, the cells' central DNA-containing compartment, which initiates genetic programs so the plant can make changes according to the conditions it faces. Scientists, including Ecker and his team, have identified the functions of a number of key regulators in the ethylene signaling pathway, including the protein EIN2 (ethylene insensitive 2).

The EIN2 protein is located in the endoplasmic reticulum, the part of the cell that facilitates the transport of proteins within the cell, and plays an essential role in ethylene signaling. The protein's function, however, remains enigmatic. Through a variety of sophisticated tests, Ecker's team uncovered a mechanism by which EIN2 protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum and movement of signaling molecules into the nucleus are required to activate the ethylene response.

Understanding the mechanism may lead to new methods to help plants thrive in tough conditions. Stress conditions trigger various negative responses in plants, including wilted and rolled leaves, premature leaf senescence (aging), reduced photosynthetic efficiency, loss of chlorophyll, poor pollination, and flower, fruit and seed loss.

The most severe drought in 25 years is impacting crops across the United States, with the potential to wipe out farmers' incomes and raise food prices. Plant researchers are studying stress conditions in order to improve crop production, which has become more urgent as farmers around the world face climate issues such as drought and extreme temperatures. Curbing crops' susceptibility to certain stressors could allow for higher yields during droughts and possibly allow drier climates to support profitable crops and feed the world's growing population.

"Growers can opt to spray their plants with an ethylene inhibitor," says Hong Qiao, a postdoctoral researcher in Ecker's laboratory and first author of the paper. "This blocks the plant's ethylene receptors from smelling ethylene, which has an effect on growth. Without the ethylene response pathway, a tomato would never ripen. Too much ethylene, and the tomato over-ripens. Therefore, basic knowledge of the precise mechanism by which plants control the response to ethylene gas will lead to better ways to control these processes in crop plants."

Other researches on the study were Shao-shan Carol Huang, Robert J. Schmitz and Mark A. Urich, from the Salk Institute; and Zhouxin Shen and Steven P. Briggs of the University of California, San Diego.

The work was supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

'Old Spice Guy' makes muscles play music

Wieden & Kennedy / Vimeo

Terry Crews mixes muscles and music with a new Old Spice video that lets users get a chance to play.

By Suzanne Choney

Watch out, "Old Spice Guy" Isaiah Mustafa. Terry Crews ? former NFL player and "Expendables" star? is muscling in on your success, playing music using his muscles?? yes, his muscles?? in an ad for the men's aftershave on Vimeo that has been played more than 1.7 million times in the last two days.

Not only does Crews use his muscles to trigger various instruments, but after the ad is over, viewers can use their own keyboards to control Crews' muscles and make their own "muscle-powered musical creations."

The clever "Muscle Music" ad campaign is by global ad agency Wieden + Kennedy. It first surfaced Aug. 23, but viewership has gone viral in the last 48 hours on Vimeo, where the after-show can be created.

"To promote the new Old Spice scent Danger Zone, Old Spice Muscleman Terry Crews does what no man has ever done before ? play a drum set using nothing but his flexing muscles," the ad agency says on its website.

"In addition to watching his historically important muscle powered performance, users also have the ability to use their keyboards to control Terry's muscles and create and share their own muscle-powered musical creations."

Or, as the firm noted on its blog:

Never has so much stupidity and technological breakthrough been combined into one thingy. It's the first ever fully interactive and sharable music video/player on Vimeo (or YouTube for that matter).

"Old Spice Muscle Music" also takes the marketing effort to Reddit, where Crews is taking questions from fans and viewers, for now.

One fan asked the star ? who also played Chris Rock's dad on the CW sitcom "Everybody Hates Chris" and U.S. President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho?in the Mike Judge movie "Idiocracy" ? and about how it is that he refuses to be typecast.

"I constantly get out of my comfort zone," he says. "Looking cool is the easiest way to mediocrity. The coolest guy in my high school ended up working at a car wash. Once you push yourself into something new, and whole new world of opportunities opens up. But you might get hurt. In fact you WILL get hurt. But amazingly when you heal ? you are somewhere you've never been." No question about that with "Old Spice Muscle Music."

?

When five teenagers struck a goofy pose for a group photo in 1982, they never expected that 30 years later they would be sitting in the same spot making the same face. The friends, now in their late 40s, talk about why they made a pact to take the same picture again and again.

B2B Telemarketing Services Video - Marketing Direct

George Clay

?The video explains how my telemarketing system works and what I can do for you.

Introductory cold calls?follow-up calls?list building?sales prospecting?appointment setting & lead management. B2B high end sales my niche.

While there?s no quick fix for getting you QUALITY new business appointments, more new customers and more sales overnight, ?my sales prospecting ?and telemarketing system ?can get your sales organization back on track.

I work exclusively for sales organizations where?lead nurturing and relationship building?are key to closing each sale. Not one call telemarketing or call center work. Nothing like that.

My appointment setting and lead management process are entirely different. Be sure you watch the video because you?ll better understand IF my service is right for your business.

?I?m one of a successful minority who is good at doing what most sales people dread ??over-the-phone prospecting.

Yes! Cold calling is my bread and butter.

Getting?your small business QUALITY new business appointments with higher conversion rates and more revenue per sales lead than is typically?achieved by direct mail,?e-mail marketing, or traditional?telemarketing?is what my service is all about.

I make things happen by working the phones and making the calls.

Call me a cold calling pro or over-the-phone-rainmaker or whatever you like.?Bottom line: I can open business opportunities for you that are new, fresh,??shape-able? ? free of baggage & history. That?s the beauty of using the?phone to create new business.

Your calls?are important?and making sure they?re done right is why I don?t outsource to third party?call centers.

Sure this limits the projects I take on.

But I?m here to give you service that stands out from the crowd.

To make working with me pay out for YOU consider a SMALL trial project. You and I work together so the sales leads and appointments I generate for you convert into paying customers for YOUR business.

During this trial project some leads are upgraded?some downgraded. Yes,?it?s a process. But from cold lead through satisfied customer it brings you better qualified prospects with higher conversion rates than you can get with direct mail, email marketing or traditional telemarketing.

I develop your prospect list by building solid relationships with key prospects in the markets and the companies you want to reach.

Creating trust?with each prospect is my primary goal ? NOT making a sale. Your calls?are important?and making sure they?re done this way is?why I don?t outsource?to third party call centers.

I start the lead qualification process with introductory cold calls?that qualify each prospect to determine if your business is a good fit for what they need. It?s here the weak prospects are weeded out?and the better qualified prospects ?are engaged for careful and methodical follow-up calls. ?This is where the all important relationship building ?process begins.

With each call I capture key details?including:

  • Your prospect?s interest level in your goods or services.
  • Identify their needs?learn about existing suppliers? and how YOU can pre-empt the competition.
  • Ask the qualifying questions?to make certain your offer matches their needs.
  • Learn their ?hot buttons? ? what is it you can do for them that matters most.

Poor monsoon rains hit millions of Indian farmers

KATHURA, India (AP) ? The farmer walks past muddy fields of stunted sugarcane and damaged rice paddies as a light drizzle falls. "Too late, too late," he says of the rains he has been praying for since many weeks ago.

For nearly two months, Satyavan Narwal's eyes scoured the heavens looking for the monsoon rains that would nourish his crops, but he found nothing and was left with parched earth. Now monsoon showers are soaking the fields ? but late August is much too late for him.

This year's fickle monsoon has played havoc with millions of Indian farmers. The showers, which normally run from June to September, are crucial in a country where 60 percent of the population works in agriculture and less than half the farmland is irrigated.

"Here farming is entirely on God's mercy. If nature doesn't bless us, the farmer can't do anything," Narwal says.

India's Meteorological Department has said it expects the country to get at least 10 percent less rain this year than during a normal monsoon, but large parts of the country have been hit much harder.

In the northwestern state of Haryana, where Narwal's family has farmed for generations, rainfall is less than half what it should have been. And when the rains finally did come, the crops were already nearly dead, fit only to be used as animal feed.

Shriveled old men share a water pipe and one of them points to the skies and shouts "What now, brother?" as they watch men and women carry damaged sugar cane to feed to their cattle. At the edge of fields, young men stand, hands on hips, shaking their heads in dismay. The village is 140 kilometers (87 miles) northwest of New Delhi.

By now the sugar cane crop should have been at least eight feet tall (2.4 meters tall). Rice paddy crops would have been lush and emerald green. Small patches of pearl millet, corn and sorghum would have dotted the landscape.

But the sun shone on with determination through all of July and most of August so that the cane is now only knee-high at best and most of the rice crop is burnt.

The lack of monsoon rains has also been partly to blame for the worst blackout in world history, which cut power to half of India last month. Large-scale farmers were using extra power to pump water from deep aquifers, and little electricity was being generated by hydropower projects.

Across the country rains in June and July ? a crucial time for farmers ? were nearly 20 percent below normal.

"Now some of the crop is so dry and damaged even our cattle won't eat it," says farmer Mahinder Singh, as he watches over the cleaning up of his sugar cane fields.

Punjab, the unofficial breadbasket of India, has received less than 40 percent of the rain it should have. Large swaths of western Gujarat and Maharashtra have been declared drought-stricken.

The government has said it's not worried about food scarcity because millions of tons of rice and wheat from earlier bumper harvests are spilling out of state-owned granaries.

But for the average farmer, who lives and earns from season to season, a poor monsoon means that food must be carefully rationed because he has little money to spend.

With dreams of a good harvest, most small- and medium-scale farmers borrow money, often at exorbitant interest rates, from local money lenders to buy seeds and fertilizers and hire tractors to plow the fields.

"Now even they won't give farmers money. They know there are no crops so there's no chance of recovery," said Ranbir Singh, as he cleaned up his three acres of dead sugarcane.

He already has to pay off loans of 300,000 rupees ($5,400), a fortune for a poor farmer.

"Now I will need to borrow more money to feed myself, but lenders will hold back," he said.

With nearly 70 percent of India's population living in rural areas, farming is vital to the economy. A poor monsoon is expected to further dampen already disappointing growth this year, according Citigroup economist Rohini Malkani.

Poor agricultural output could result in growth as low as 5.4 percent in the current fiscal year, down from the bank's earlier estimates of 6.4 percent, according to the economist's August report.

"If drought conditions worsen, headline growth could come in lower at 4.9 percent," she writes.

The federal government and many state governments have hesitated to declare a drought for fear of causing panic and because it requires them to assess each farmers' losses and compensate them.

Farmers in Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh state, which have not been given declarations of drought, are losing patience.

"What will it take for the government to declare a drought?" asks Narwal. "Will all the farmers have to die first?"

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said Cabinet ministers would meet later this week to discuss the impact of the poor monsoon.

In Kathura village, however, Pankaj Aggarwal, the top district official, brushes aside talk of a drought, saying that the few recent days of rain will revive the crops.

Meanwhile, farmers lament the lack of government investment in irrigation and other infrastructure that could protect farmers from the vagaries of the monsoon.

"Where are the irrigation canals, the irrigation pumps, the electricity supply that the government keeps promising the farmers?" asked Dharmendra Malik, a farmer and activist in Uttar Pradesh.

"You have food grains in your stocks so you're not worried, but that doesn't mean you abandon 600 million of your people who tend the fields," he said.

Laser beam as a '3-D painter' to grow biological tissue or to create micro sensors

ScienceDaily (Aug. 27, 2012) ? With laser beams, molecules can be fixed at exactly the right position in a three dimensional material. The new method developed at the Vienna University of Technology can be used to grow biological tissue or to create micro sensors.

There are many ways to create three dimensional objects on a micrometer scale. But how can the chemical properties of a material be tuned at micrometer precision? Scientists at the Vienna University of Technology developed a method to attach molecules at exactly the right place. When biological tissue is grown, this method can allow the positioning of chemical signals, telling living cells where to attach. The new technique also holds promise for sensor technology: A tiny three dimensional "lab on a chip" could be created, in which accurately positioned molecules react with substances from the environment.

Materials Science and Chemistry

"3-D-photografting" is the name of the new method. Two research teams from the Vienna University of Technology collaborated closely to develop it: Professor J?rgen Stampfl's materials science team and Professor Robert Liska's research group for macromolecular chemistry.

Both research groups have already attracted considerable attention in the past, developing new kinds of 3-D-printers. However, for the applications on which the scientists are working on now, 3-D-printing would not have been useful: "Putting together a material from tiny building blocks with different chemical properties would be extremely complicated," says Aleksandr Ovsianikov. "That is why we start from a three dimensional scaffold and then attach the desired molecules at exactly the right positions."

Molecules in the Hydrogel -- Locked into Position by the Laser

The scientists start with a so-called hydrogel -- a material made of macromolecules, arranged in a loose meshwork. Between those molecules, large pores remain, through which other molecules or even cells can migrate. Specially selected molecules are introduced into the hydrogel meshwork, then certain points are irradiated with a laser beam. At the positions where the focused laser beam is most intense, a photochemically labile bond is broken. That way, highly reactive intermediates are created which locally attach to the hydrogel very quickly. The precision depends on the laser's lens system, at the Vienna University of Technology a resolution of 4 ?m could be obtained. "Much like an artist, placing colors at certain points of the canvas, we can place molecules in the hydrogel -- but in three dimensions and with high precision," says Aleksandr Ovsianikov.

Chemical Signals for Cells

This method can be used to artificially grow biological tissue. Like a climbing plant clinging to a rack, cells need some scaffold at which they attach. In a natural tissue, the extracellular matrix does the trick by using specific amino acid sequences to signal the cells, where they are supposed to grow. In the lab, scientists are trying to use similar chemical signals. In various experiments, cell attachment could be guided on two dimensional surfaces, but in order to grow larger tissues with a specific inner structure (such as capillaries), a truly three dimensional technique is required.

Micro Sensors Detect Molecules

Depending on the application, different molecules can be used. 3-D photografting is not only useful for bio-engineering but also for other fields, such as photovoltaics or sensor technology. In a very small space, molecules can be positioned which attach to specific chemical substances and allow their detection. A microscopic three-dimensional "lab on a chip" becomes possible.

Empire State gunman planned to not return home: NY police

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The man who shot and killed a former co-worker and was himself killed by police near New York City's Empire State Building left his keys with his landlord on Friday to allow renovation of his apartment and apparently intended to never return, a police source said on Sunday.

Jeffrey Johnson, 58, an out-of-work accessories designer, killed Steve Ercolino, with whom he had been feuding, on Friday in midtown Manhattan. Nine bystanders were wounded as the result of police gunfire, three hit by bullets and six injured by ricocheted fragments.

"He left the keys in an envelope for the landlord with no intention of ever coming back," said a police source familiar with the investigation who declined to be identified.

Police contested a report in the New York Post that Johnson was being evicted, but did say Johnson was forced out of his home.

"It was not an eviction," the source said. "Johnson was on a sub-lease as a sub-tenant. The tenant informed Johnson he would have to leave during renovation of the apartment by the owner."

Detectives searching Johnson's apartment found books on training and fighting skills such as "Techniques and Equipment of the Deadly Marksmen Snipers" and "Attack Proof - the Ultimate Guide to Personal Protection," the source said.

They also found a plastic case with 15 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, the same kind he used to shoot Ercolino, and police planned to examine the contents of Johnson's home computer for more clues to his motive, the source said.

Johnson had been laid off a year ago from Hazan Imports, across the street from the Empire State Building, where he was locked in a dispute with the victim, police said. Johnson claimed Ercolino had failed to sell enough of his creations and held a grudge, they said.

Animosity between Johnson and Ercolino had prompted them to file complaints about each other with police in April 2011, police said.

Ercolino, 41, was a salesman at Hazan. He lived with his girlfriend in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Myanmar communal bloodshed leaves deep scars

Charred stumps and scattered rubbish are all that remain of a once-bustling community in strife-torn western Myanmar, just one of many razed to the ground in recent communal violence.

The clashes which broke out in June between Rakhine Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims have left dozens of people dead and torn apart communities, forcing tens of thousands on both sides to seek refuge in dusty camps and shelters.

Nawseema Har Tu Fa said she fled her village after it was torched during the wave of violence that turned longtime neighbours into bitter enemies.

"We had no problem with the Buddhist people before. We never quarrelled with them before. We lived together, we used to speak. We went to the market every day together," she recounted in a village near the Rakhine state capital Sittwe where many Rohingya have sought sanctuary.

"The main reason we came here is to protect our children, otherwise they might have died there."

An estimated 70,000 people -- 50,000 Rohingya and 20,000 Buddhists -- are in emergency accommodation in the Sittwe area, police told an AFP reporter who visited the remote region near the border with Bangladesh.

They languish in camps or cramped monasteries, dependent on food handouts.

"There are no houses or shelter in their own villages, they were all burned down, so that's why they are here," said Soe Myint, manager of the Kaung Dokar refugee camp, one of six Rohingya camps in Sittwe.

Almost 90 people, both Buddhists and Rohingya, were killed during the violence in June, according to official figures which rights groups fear grossly underestimate the real toll.

The riots broke out after a Buddhist woman was allegedly raped and murdered by a group of Rohingya men.

Access to affected areas is restricted by the authorities, which say that the situation has been relatively calm in recent weeks.

But officials reported that renewed clashes left several people dead earlier this month, underscoring the tinderbox atmosphere.

Rohingya driven from their homes are not allowed to leave the camps -- ostensibly for their own safety. But the restriction has left the Rohingya community out of work and reliant on World Food Programme supplies.

"We do not have enough food, as we do not have the possibility to go to Sittwe downtown to buy everything we need," said displaced Rohingya Abu Shukur.

Faced with heavy criticism from rights groups and outcry from the Muslim world after the unrest, Myanmar's government has denied accusations of abuse of Rohingya villagers by security forces in Rakhine.

New York-based Human Rights Watch has accused Myanmar forces of opening fire on Rohingya during the June outbreak of unrest, as well as committing rape and standing by as rival mobs attacked each other.

Speaking a dialect similar to one in neighbouring Bangladesh, the Rohingya are seen as illegal immigrants by the Myanmar government and many Burmese, who describe them as "Bengalis" or "kalar" -- a derogatory term for Muslims.

"Successive governments and regimes have taken in the Muslim kalar, illegally allowing them in" in return for bribes, said senior monk Oo Ku Maar Ka, the head of Gade Chay Monastery.

In a report sent to Myanmar's parliament earlier this month, the country's reformist President Thein Sein accused Buddhist monks, politicians and other ethnic Rakhine figures of kindling hatred towards the Rohingya.

"Rakhine people are continuously thinking to terrorise the Bengali Muslims living across the country," he said, adding that ethnic Rakhine could not envisage sharing their land with people they consider foreigners.

"They cannot consider a situation in which the Bengali Muslims can be citizens," the president said according to the report, which was seen by AFP.

Myanmar recently announced it had set up a new commission to establish the cause of the sectarian clashes and recommend measures to ease tensions and find "ways for peaceful coexistence".

For now that appears a distant goal as deep mistrust poisons relations between the segregated communities.

"We knew the ones who burned down our houses," said Saw Saw, one of thousands of displaced Rakhine Buddhists sheltering in local monasteries. "If Rohingya from outside come in then it will be even worse."

Ron Paul's Convention Tribute Could Bring Israel Problems For GOP

Mitt Romney?s campaign announced Friday that Ron Paul would receive a video tribute at the convention ? part of an effort to appease Paul supporters and to highlight Romney?s supposedly warm relationship with the Texas congressman. But Paul?s opposition to aid to Israel, his dismissal of Iran?s nuclear program and his newsletters? shout-outs to antisemitic conspiracy theories could complicate the GOP?s outreach to Jewish voters.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch, an Obama supporter and one the most prominent pro-Israel voices in the Democratic Party, said Paul?s convention role drags down the Republican brand among Jewish voters.

?This will make it easier for me when I go to Florida and talk about not only the fact that the Republicans want to destroy Medicare and Social Security and Medicaid and the right of abortion ? they also allow someone who I see as an old David Duke to join their ranks,? Koch said. ?I?ll be there talking primarily to the Jewish community, and I think they will understand what that means.?

Koch has broken with the president in the past over Israel. In 2011, he endorsed Republican candidate Bob Turner in a special House election last year, a move aimed at pushing the White House closer the Israel.

Romney often uses Israel as a wedge issue against Obama. After a trip to Israel last month, he ran ads challenging the White House to break with bipartisan past precedent and move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. But Romney has overlooked his and Paul?s policy differences in favor of stressing their friendship.

?Rep. Paul?s people came to us and said they?d like to do a short tribute to him, and we said absolutely, it would be a good time to do that,? Romney strategist Russ Schriefer told reporters on Friday, citing the ?mutual respect? between Paul and Romney.

David Harris, president of the National Jewish Democratic Council, told TPM that Romney?s embrace of Paul at the convention was ?profoundly disturbing and utterly unsurprising? and urged pro-Israel Republicans to walk out during the Paul tribute.

?The GOP has utterly failed the ethics and moral test of dealing with Paul,? he said.

Nonpartisan and Republican Jewish groups have clashed with Paul in the past as have pro-Israel conservative pundits. During the primaries, conservative Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin called the GOP?s failure to isolate Paul ?appalling to those familiar with his racist and anti-Semitic newsletters? and said his success ?should be an object lesson to the party in general and to the other candidates specifically about treating him respectfully.?

The Republican Jewish Coalition barred Paul from a candidate forum last year, citing his ?misguided and extreme views.? But the RJC seemed reluctant to even acknowledge Paul?s inclusion.

?We are pleased that Ron Paul was denied any formal speaking role at the convention and that the RNC has worked so that his name will not even be put in nomination,? RJC executive director Matt Brooks told TPM in a statement. ?This reflects the broad consensus that Ron Paul and his views are outside of the mainstream of the Republican Party.?

Richard Grenell, a former spokesman for Romney on foreign policy, told TPM that ?Ron Paul?s commitment to limit government?s involvement in our daily lives is the future of the Republican Party.?

He added: ?I only wish Ron Paul?s foreign policy positions could be outsourced to John Bolton.?

WHY DONT I GIVE PRESIDENT OBAMA A FAIR CHANCE?

One of my readers asked why I was so overwhelmingly negative in what I write about Barack Obama and in the spirit of ?fair play? suggesting that I should cut him some slack. Since the person did not sign his name, I will reply here in the hope that he reads this.

Where was Obama?s spirit of fair play when he instructed Congress to craft that abomination known as Obamacare? The Congressional democrats did not allow republicans to assist in crafting the legislation and did not allow for republican amendments to the legislation. As Obama and his fellow travelers put it, Obamacare is good for the country and good for its citizens. So I ask you, if it was so recognizably good, why were legislative bribes and backroom deals needed to coerce some democrats to vote for the bill? Why was it a 2000+ page bill, virtually nobody read nor understood? Why was is dropped on desks in the dead of night? Nothing particularly fair about that.

Where was Obama?s spirit of fair play when his party controlled the House, the Senate and the Presidency for two years? He often said the country was hurting after the ?Bush Recession,? so why didn?t he set about fixing it ? instead of doling out money to municipalities and the states who were keeping union employees on the job while letting others go? What was so fair about that?

Where was Obama?s sense of fair play when he was asked for his birth certificate, travel documents, social security card and school records? He didn?t think much of the American public to provide them with his credentials for the office he now holds. Spending millions to avoid producing the documents in a court of competent jurisdiction. Is it fair when he demands Romney?s tax returns and hides his own documents? I think not.

And speaking of fair play, how does he manage to get a pass from the mainstream media when he openly lies to the American public?

And how about the fairness to award Obama the Nobel Peace Prize when he did absolutely nothing to earn it? What about the fairness to the other contenders with real accomplishments? Or was this simply an advance reward for screwing over America?

You want fairness ? I will extend him fairness. I won?t call for his prosecution for treason should it turn out that he misled the public. I will call for his prosecution and conviction. I think that is fair for the American people.

And should he turn out to become the Secretary General of the United Nations, I will demand that the United States quit the U.N. and throw the corrupt delegates out of the country.

Fair is fair!!

Dozens Line Up to Apply for State Fair Jobs

Story Created: Aug 21, 2012 at 7:19 PM AKDT

Story Updated: Aug 21, 2012 at 7:30 PM AKDT

PALMER - As the Alaska State Fair draws near, dozens of people lined up Tuesday to apply for a job with Golden Wheel Amusements (GWA), the company in charge of the rides.

In addition to submitting an application, each person is also drug tested right on the site and must have a fairly clean background.

?We don't hire anyone who has a felony, especially against women or children; they're not allowed to work here. We have hired people who have lost their license for a DUI,? said Andrea Davis, the business manager for GWA.

Not every employee on the fairgrounds is checked.

?We don't routinely background check the 3,000 performers, but most are performing onstage and don't have access to areas. If something is brought to our attention, we'll follow up,? said Marketing Director Dean Phipps.

The fair office uses the company Starplex to hire 300 security guards and parking attendants. About three-quarters of those return every year, but everyone hired for one of those jobs goes through a drug test and background check.

?This place is really secure and safe, we haven't had any problems,? said Starplex Manager Bill Scott.

To make sure all the rides are thoroughly checked before opening day, GWA hired an out-of-state independent consultant. Lewis Merz?s job is to ensure more than 30 rides are in proper working order, but he said checking the mechanics only go so far.

?Most incidents that occur are from the operator or patron that's doing something they're not supposed to be doing. Read the rules, pay attention to the operator, sit in your seat. Use your seat belts, lap bars and restraints,? said Merz.

The carnival and fair managers said they do what they can to give families peace of mind that the people who keep the fair running have been properly vetted.

The marketing director also said part of the fair?s contract with the band Creed is that concertgoers will have their backpacks searched for weapons and other illegal items before the show begins opening night. He said while that?s not common with most of the other acts, it?s a way the fair can make sure performers feel safe as well.
