"I extend my warmest congratulations to our people in the homeland and Diaspora," Abbas said, hoping God would "respond to our prayers and help us succeed in our just struggle for the realization of our national freedom and independence and to establish a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital."
Turning to address "our people in the camps," Abbas said he would spare no effort to protect them and their struggle to return to their homeland. He also promised prisoners and their relatives that he would continue his efforts to free Israel's detainees and return them to their families.
The statement also said Abbas would continue efforts to resolve the state of division in the occupied territories and restore unity for the Palestinian people.
Abbas wished Arabs and Muslims and joyous holiday and said he hoped for an end to violence plaguing the region.
